Smoke rises from the Columbia River Road Fire near Nespelem.
The fire is burning on the Colville Indian Reservation. People living nearby tell KREM 2 News the fire started Thursday morning and spread quickly in the hot, dry conditions.
The Columbia River Road Fire, as it's called, is reportedly threatening about 40 structures near the Kartar Community south of Omak Lake. That area is under a level-one evacuation, which means homeowners should be ready to leave with little notice if the fire moves any closer.
The fire is burning in Okanogan County but the Ferry County Sheriff's Office says it has blown smoke into western Ferry County
