Indian Bread
(Start to finish 45 minutes)
Vegetable oil
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 cups water
Preheat oven to 350 F. Liberally oil a 9x9-inch baking pan.
Combine the dry ingredients in a medium bowl and mix. Add the water and mix well. The dough should resemble a very thick pancake batter. Transfer the dough to the baking dish and spread evenly.
Bake 30 minutes, or until the bread is firm. Increase heat to 450 F and bake another 5 to 10 minutes, or until lightly browned. Served warm or cooled.
Makes 9 servings.

Indian Bread 1 1/2 cups sifted flour 1 egg, beaten 1 cup corn meal 1/2 cup molasses 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1 2/3 cup milk 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 2 tablespoons shortening, melted Sift the dry ingredients together. Add the edd, molasses and milk. beat until smooth. Lastly add the shortening. turn into a greased 9x9 pan cook 450 oven for 20 min or until done. When I have them I put in blueberries and use a round pan cut in pie shapes.
