I am establishing contact with your organization with the hope of developing a partnership that would advance outreach activities by Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) to Aboriginal clients and potential clients. The International Native and Metis Women's Council appears to be one of the organizational vehicles to meet this challenge.
The goals and objectives of the Aboriginal Outreach Project are to:
- increase knowledge of all Aboriginal Veterans and their spouses of the programs and services offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
- ensure eligible Aboriginal Veterans and their spouses are made aware of, and have access to VAC programs and services, including eligibility criteria for these programs and services.
- continue to demonstrate VAC's concern for the care and well- being of Aboriginal Veterans.
- demonstrate VAC is taking concrete action to address the concerns of Aboriginal Veterans.
In order to meet these objectives, the outreach strategy is employing the following components:
- direct service to individual Aboriginal Veterans and clients who are seeking general and/or specific information about VAC's programs, services, and benefits.
- actively engage and liaise with Aboriginal Veterans' organizations.
- enhance targeted communications to promote awareness of VAC's programs and services.
I would like to look at ways and means of getting our message out to the Aboriginal communities you serve through the communication network you may have in place. I am prepared to come and speak at future events you may be holding where veterans and their families may benefit from the information I will provide. Any other assistance which can be rendered would be most appreciated. I hope to be hearing from you soon. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and support.
