HELP SAVE AICH!!
On Noverber 30th, AICH will be out on the street! The current landlord
is evicting AICH before the new space can made ready at 11 Broadway.
Help AICH by sending letters to your elected officials.
The below link is a site that lists your elected officials, so you may
write a letter to them urging them to help the American Indian
Community House.

Dear Hon. LAST NAME:
The American Indian Community House ("AICH"), a health, social service
and cultural organization providing services to the largest population
of urban American Indians in the country according to the 2000 US
Census, needs your help. AICH is located at 708 Broadway in Manhattan,
and the landlord is in the process of renovating the building to make
way for new condominiums.
As one of the 70,000 proud American Indians who live in the New York
City and tri-state area, I look to your office to help the American
Indian Community House from being evicted from its current home on
November 30, 2006.
Although we have a found a new place at 11 Broadway, the construction
needed to make that property usable is taking longer than our current
lease permits. Our landlord Del LLC at 708 Broadway, and the court has
given us a November 30th deadline to move out - regardless of whether
we have a new office or not. We do not want to inconvenience our
current landlord needlessly, however we are reluctant to pressure the
new landlord to do more than he is willing to do to get our new space
ready for occupancy.
The reality is 1) we are losing our home - a hardship at best 2) at
considerably more expense as a nonprofit organization, and 3) we need
help. We need more time to stay where we are -- at least through the
holidays or a way to provide services and programs without additional
expense, that is the least disruptive to the most vulnerable among our
members.
We ask you to work with us to resolve this situation because if we do
not find an alternative to this situation, then it is the community
members, a number of whom are your constituents, and to whom AICH
provides services that will suffer the most.
I look forward to hearing from you or your office as soon as possible.
And if you need more information please contact Rosemary Richmond at
212.598.0100.
Sincerely,
Your Name
