Tribe announces latest round of giving
The Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund made another round of distributions this week, bringing the total distribution by the seven-member advisory board to more than $ 2.7 million since its inception in 2001.
Thirty-six organizations shared $515,958.25 in contributions when checks were presented at Chinook Winds Casino Resort in Lincoln City on Monday, Nov. 3. This includes $29,877 for Alsea Rural Health Care to purchase and install a standby generator, transfer switch, and 150-gallon propane tank; $20,000 for the Samaritan Early Learning Center to stay open while it attracts additional funding; $5,000 for the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation to provide charitable lodging for Lincoln County residents at the Mario Pastega House in Corvallis; and $6,000 for the City of Siletz to start a Municipal Court.
Eligibility for money from the Charitable Contribution Fund is limited to two categories:
* Entities and activities located in the Siletz Tribe's 11-county service area (Lincoln, Tillamook, Linn, Lane, Benton, Polk, Yamhill, Marion, Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties)
* Native American entities and activities located anywhere in the United States.

The Siletz Tribe is proud of its contributions through employment, monetary donations, and cooperative measures to the Siletz community, Lincoln County, and the state of Oregon. The tribe has honored its tradition of sharing within the community by distributing nearly $5 million through the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund and other tribal resources. Chinook Winds has donated more than $1.25 million in cash and fund-raising items since it opened in 1995. The casino also provides in-kind donations of convention space for various fund-raisers as well as technical support, advertising, and manpower for many events.
The distribution for Nov. 3 included the following:
€ Arts - $8,075: Salem Chamber Orchestra - discounted tickets for children and adults for family concert in February 2007, $6,575; Taft High School - new instruments for The Americana Project, a collaboration with the Let There Be Arts program, $1,500;
€ Cultural Activities - $13,000 Coastal Communities Cultural Center (4 C's) - Missoula Children's Theatre performance and musical accompanist in summer 2007, $2,800; NW Native American Basketweavers Assoc. - supplies, printing, copying, and postage (Omak, Wash.), $3,000; NW Indian Veterans Assoc. - gift cards for elders and teens for annual Christmas party (Vancouver, Wash.), $2,200; Stayton Public Library Foundation - help build addition to current library, $5,000;
€ Education - $388,000: Native American Rehabilitation Assoc. of the NW - print 1,300 copies of culturally tailored Native women's wellness manual (Portland), $7,500; Native American Rights Fund - salary of one law clerk for 2007 Summer Law Clerk Program (Boulder, Colo.), $6,500; Nestucca Valley Middle School - equipment for implementation of IPLAY (Increasing Participation for Lifelong Active Youth) program, $2,750; Oceanlake Elementary School - first-grade level guided reading books, $270; Oceanlake Elementary School - keyboards for 12 Palm Pilots, $1,200; Oregon Coast Comm.
