Iowa Woman Needs Blue Jean Donations Andrea Holldorf Makes Quilts For Wounded Soldiers
GRANT, Iowa -- A Grant, Iowa, woman is collecting blue jeans to make quilts for wounded soldiers returning from Iraq.
"I thought it might bring back memories," said Andrea Holldorf. "Someday they'll have their blue jeans on again."
But, she has run out of blue jeans, and she's asking for donations.
"Because (the soldiers have) had a tough time over there," said Holldorf.
She knows all about tough times. Before she moved to Grant, she lost everything in a house fire. And two years ago she received worse news.
"I was diagnosed with cancer," Holldorf said. "I had a kidney taken out due to cancer. I kind of lost hope, and this gives me a purpose."
She will mail the finished quilts to Sen. Chuck Hagel's wife, Lilibet, who will then take the quilts to injured servicemen at Walter Reed Medical Center.
Holldorf has run into one big problem. She doesn't get around as well as she used to, and used blue jeans are hard to come by in Grant.
Blue jeans can be mailed to Andrea Holldorf, 408 Jefferson, Grant, Iowa 50847. Copyright 2007 by KCCI.com. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
