Navajo President Joe Shirley, Jr., orders flags flown half-staff in honor of two Navajo Code Talkers
WINDOW ROCK, Ariz.- Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley, Jr., has ordered all Navajo Nation flags flown at half-staff for six days in honor and remembrance of two elderly Navajo Code Talkers who passed away this week.
Stewart Clah, 87, of Tse' Daa Kaan (Hogback), N.M. passed away on Sunday and Charles K. Guy, Sr., of Chinle, Ariz., died on Tuesday.
All flags shall be flown at half-staff from May 2, 2007 to May 6, 2007.
"Pray for their families," the President said during his weekly KTNN radio address on Wednesday. "They used our language against the Japanese, and the United States was able to win World War II with that assistance."
Stewart Clah reportedly lied about being older than he actually was in order to enter the U.S. Marines. Mr. Guy formerly worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
In a proclamation in their honor, the President states that the the Navajo Nation is greatly saddened by the loss of two more Navajo Code Talkers.
Both served the United States of America and the Navajo Nation with courage,honor and distinction, he said.
