Mirroring a more diverse population EDUCATION: The Duluth school district will consider a plan aimed at recruiting a more racially diverse staff. BY JAKE WEYER NEWS TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER When Phyllis Stott was a second-grader in Duluth in 1952, she and her older sister were the only American Indian students she knew of. Stott felt isolated, as though there were no one she could relate to. As a second-grade teacher at Grant Language Magnet School, Stott hopes to keep today's students from feeling as she did.
