Oneida leader Halbritter accepts 2007 Crystal Ball Award
Central New York Sales & Marketing Executives honored Oneida Nation
Representative and CEO Ray Halbritter naming him their 31st Annual
Crystal Ball recipient for his vision and commitment to improving the
lives of his people and those in Central New York. Halbritter also was
honored with a proclamation naming March 7, 2007, as "Ray Halbritter
Community Recognition Day" in Onondaga County.
The proclamation described Halbritter as "a driving force in the
Oneida Nation's economic resurgence" that "benefits the
Oneida people as well as all of Central New York." The proclamation
also cited the Oneida's efforts under his leadership to "reduce
stereotypes and accurately portray American Indians and indigenous
people."
"I've been honored in many ways before, but a day named after
you is really special," Halbritter said after Syracuse Mayor Matt
Driscoll read the proclamation.
Halbritter spoke of building on Turning Stone Resort and Casino's
national and international renown to turn Central New York into a
Disney-like destination region, capitalizing on the area's
"tremendous beauty, its four seasons of recreational opportunity,
(and) its fantastic history."
