Bird, Cole win at INFR By Gazette News Services
SAN CARLOS, Ariz. - Dustin Bird of Cut Bank and Harlem's Jim Cole won the team roping average title at the Indian National Finals Rodeo this past weekend.
The event featured the top Native American cowboys and cowgirls from the United States and Canada.
Cole and Bird finished with a total time of 25.0 seconds on four runs. There were part of a 1-2-3 finish for team ropers from Montana.
Cut Bank's Ted Hoyt teamed with Arizona roper Preston Williams to place second with 32.2 seconds on four runs, while Clay Three Irons and Clay GunShows were third with a time of 32.4 seconds. Three Irons is from is from Crow Agency, while GunShows is from Lodge Grass. Bird, a former INFR all-around champion, also placed second in the calf roping with 43.9 seconds on four runs.
Two Browning cowboys also placed second in their respective events. Jarrett Monroe finished second in saddle bronc with 244 points on three rides, while Rian Conway was second in steer wrestling with a total time of 23.0 seconds on four runs. Monroe won the College National Finals Rodeo saddle bronc title earlier this summer.
