Jennifer Elizabeth Kreisberg
Mother, Singer, Composer, Producer, Teacher, and Fire Eater - Jennifer
(Tuscarora) comes from four generations of seven singing sisters
through the maternal line, and has been singing since was a small
child. She is known for hear searing, soaring voice and beautiful
harmonies.
She is a member of the critically acclaimed Native Women's Trio
ULALI. She has been a member for over 16 years. Her work with Ulali
has carried her all over the world and extensively throughout Indian
Country. As part of the group, she has contributed to the soundtrack
for the TBS series The Native Americans and subsequently contributed
to two songs on the Robbie Robertson's album of the same name. She as
appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno; Been a recipient of the
Eagle Achievement Award from the Native American Film Institute in San
Francisco; And a winner of the Native Women's Recognition Award from
Ganondagon, NY. She also contributed to the soundtrack of the motion
picture Smoke Signals; Co writing and co performing on the song Wah
jhi le yihm.
Jennifer has shared the stage with such performers as Buffy St.
Marie, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown, Richie Havens, Sting, and many
others. In addition, she has performed at such venues as Woodstock
94, the Smithsonian Institute, NMAI, 1996 Olympics, Carnegie Hall, the
Kennedy Center, New Orleans Jazz Festival, and the Hollywood Bowl (for
the Dalai Lama). She has also performed for V-day in Madison Square
Garden and in the girl thingy Monologues film. With Ulali, she has helped
to create a new sound in Indian Country.
Jennifer is a Master Teaching Artist for the State of Connecticut
Commission on the Arts. She if frequently called upon to guest
lecture and conduct vocal workshops at universities, schools and
festivals throughout the country. She has done background vocals for
various groups and voice-overs for commercials some of which feature
her own compositions and highlight her productions skills.
Jennifer made a guest appearance as Salmon Girl in Sherman
Alexie's film The Business of Fancy Dancing. The soundtrack features
her singing the Deer Song which she composed in 1997 for the
Aboriginal Women's Voices project in Banff. In addition, she can also
be heard on two other tracks; Amazing Grace and Osinilashatin--for
which she composed the melody and produced the track.
Jennifer also composed a song that she and Soni Moreno sang for
Nickelodeon TV's public service short about September 11th. She also
composed, produced and performed a song Have Hope for the newly
released film Unnatural and Accidental Woman, as well as singing on
the score. She is a founding member of the Native American
Scholarship fund at Lynchburg College in Virginia. Jennifer is also a
Core Advisory member of the newly founded First Nations Composers
Initiative.
