Tribe, company announce Internet service in rural areas
OKMULGEE, Okla. An American Indian tribe is teaming up with a telephone company to provide Internet access to rural areas of eastern Oklahoma.
The Muscogee Creek Nation and A-T-and-T announced a plan yesterday to install computers and broadband service in 11 rural community centers.
A-T-and-T Oklahoma President Don Cain presented a 23-thousand-438 dollar grant to Creek Nation Principal Chief A-D Ellis to launch the rural technology project.
Ellis says the project provides a technology solution for the many residents in the communities who are financially unable to own a computer or pay for Internet access.
The centers scheduled to receive new computer equipment and Internet access are in Cromwell, Dewar, Dustin, Eufaula, Kellyville, Hanna, Okfuskee, Twin Hills, Weleetka, Wetumka and Yardeka.
