Four Candidates in Three States: INDN’s List Endorses
for Local and State Offices
As our Tulsa offices buzz with the work of electing
Indians nationwide and the continued energy of our
primary victories thus far, we are excited to announce
four endorsements for campaigns across the country.
INDN’s List endorses Solomon Little Owl in his bid for
the Colorado State Senate, Ed Brownshield for the
North Dakota House, Jack Gordon for Tulsa County
Assessor (OK), and Sean Burrage for the Oklahoma State
Senate.
“Across the country we’re proving that families are
ready for new leadership for their communities and
that Indians share the core values of Americans
everywhere,” explained President Kalyn Free. “These
candidates excite us in their experience and history
of action in improving the lives of their neighbors.”
With his vision for a progressive, competitive economy
and for schools that work for everyone, Sean Burrage,
a member of the Choctaw Nation, brings positive ideas
and a spirit of cooperation to his campaign for
Oklahoma Senate District 2. As legislative director
for Senator David Boren and the president of an
anti-hunger charity focused on needy families and
children, Burrage combines a practical approach to
government with a drive to help others. His experience
and approach contrast sharply with his right-wing
opponent, and Sean Burrage is the right candidate for
the people of Rogers and Mayes counties and Oklahomans
statewide.
Solomon Little Owl, a veteran raised on a rural Crow
Reservation, has drawn attention to issues important
to Native Americans and has shown creativity in
addressing the problems faced by communities
throughout the US. His schooling in economics and
geography, his service to our country abroad, and his
work at the University of Northern Colorado as
director of the Native American Student Services
Center, have brought Little Owl into contact with a
vast variety of citizens, challenges, and
opportunities. He will bring his experience and his
voice to bear for the residents of Colorado ’s Senate
District 13 and people all around the sta te.
Ed Brownshield, a member of the Spirit Lake Dakotah
Sioux and candidate for District 23 representative in
the North Dakota House, faced and overcame adversity,
then went to work helping others do the same as
director of a residential addiction treatment center.
As a small business owner, he has brought jobs and
revenue to his North Dakota reservation and has met
head-on the challenges in building economies
throughout the state’s most vulnerable communities.
A Cherokee candidate for Tulsa County Assessor in
Oklahoma , Jack Gordon is not new to the assessor’s
office. He has spent more than two decades
implementing new technologies and incorporating
innovation to save taxpayers their hard earned money.
While cities from Houston to Wichita to New York City
have sought his advice, Gordon has gone above and
beyond in his commitment to the working families of
Tulsa County .
