Earth Island Institute’s Sacred Land Film Project produces a variety of media and educational materials — films, videos, DVDs, articles, photographs, school curricula materials and Web site content — to deepen public understanding of sacred places, indigenous cultures and environmental justice.
Our mission is to use journalism, organizing and activism to rekindle reverence for land, increase respect for cultural diversity, stimulate dialogue about connections between nature and culture, and protect sacred lands and diverse spiritual practices.
For the last decade we have focused on the production and distribution of the documentary film, In the Light of Reverence. We are currently developing a four-part series on sacred places around the world, entitled Losing Sacred Ground.

Help for Elders Appeal

HELP FOR ELDERS APPEAL!
Hi Everyone,
I hope that you are all enjoying the onset of spring as I am. The Swallows and Swifts have arrived here in Devon, UK, and I love to hear their calls as they dart around after the insects.
On a more sober note, I am once again putting out an appeal on behalf of Lakota Elders, including one elderly couple in Manitoba, Cananda. There are still four small Lakota tribes that live in Canada that are descendents of Sitting Bull. He took his people into Canada for safety for Four years in 1876 and some of his descendents are still there.
There was a blizzard in South Dakota on the 2rd may, which dumped 4ft of snow on the reservation and the Black Hills! Although spring is here, the weather in the Dakotas can be very unpredictable as the blizzard shows. The snow has gone as quickly as it came, but it still shows the hardships that befall the Lakota, and North Dakota and going further north into Canada the weather is even colder.
There is an elderly lady of 82 that lives on her own on the Pine Ridge reservation, as she is widowed, that is struggling badly, and a grandmother in Rapid City that desperately needs help, so if anyone would like to help these Elders please contact me via my website :-
www.lakota-aid.co.uk
I would also like to say thank you very much to the people that contacted me wanting to help an Elder from my last appeal. These lovely Elders are so happy that someone cares and cannot thank you enough. To continue to help in whatever way you can is wonderful and gives the Elders a lot of hope. If you cannot give money, a letter telling of where you live etc and with continuous communication can really cheer an Elder up, as this makes them realise that people off the reservation, from all walks of life and even different parts of the world do truly care. Again for more information and details of an Elder, contact me on Lakota-Aid
Take care and watch this space for more updates.
