The Center for First Nations Studies and the Office of Multicultural
Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Superior are seeking American
Indian high school students to exhibit their artwork at UW-Superior's
8th annual American Indian Art Scholarship Exhibit.
The exhibit showcases outstanding artwork created by Native American
9th- through 12th-grade students from Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Participating juniors and seniors are eligible to compete for a $1,000
scholarship to UW-Superior.
Students can submit up to two pieces in any medium. Items must be ready
to exhibit. Deadline for submission is February 19, 2007. Details and
applications are available online at www.uwsuper.edu/oma/NAAS. Artwork
for the exhibit will be selected by a jury of UW-Superior art faculty.
The American Indian Art Scholarship Exhibit runs March 5-28, 2007, in
the Kruk Gallery of the Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center at
UW-Superior. An art sale by Native American artists will be held from
4:30 to 6 p.m. followed by a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. March 28 in the
Kruk Gallery, at which the scholarship will be presented.
"This is a great opportunity for American Indian high school students to
have their artwork shown in the same exhibit as prominent American
Indian regional artists," said Ivy Vainio, multicultural affairs
specialist at UW-Superior. "Giving a $1,000 scholarship to the first
place winner will help that student achieve his or her educational goal,
and bring another talented student to UW-Superior."
For more information, students can contact Ivy Vainio at (715) 394-8415
or yvainio@uwsuper.edu.
