According to the 1999 Cherokee Constitution, which has been implemented as the Supreme Law of the Cherokee Nation, the Tribal Council shall consist of seventeen (17) members. Fifteen (15) members are to represent fourteen (14) equally apportioned districts within the historical jurisdiction of the Cherokee Nation, two (2) "at large" members are to represent Cherokee citizens residing outside the historical jurisdiction.
The Supreme Court of the Cherokee Nation has mandated that the Tribal Council appoint two (2) "at large" Tribal Council members to serve until the next general election which will be held in June 2007.
Those interested in being appointed to the Tribal Council shall meet these qualifications to-wit:
A citizen of the Cherokee Nation by blood
At least twenty-five (25) years of age.
Not be convicted of a felony or a crime under the laws of the Cherokee Nation that committed in some other jurisdiction would be a felony or proof of a pardon of said crime from the appropriate jurisdiction.
Not hold any office of honor, profit or trust in any other tribe of Indian Nation, unless approved by the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council.
All individuals seeking appointment shall send proof of the qualifications listed above and any other information they deem pertinent to:

Individuals are encouraged to attend the Rules Committee Meeting of the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council at 1:00 p.m., June 29th, 2006. At said meeting two (2) individuals will be recommended for appointment at a special meeting of the Tribal Council which will be held at 5:00 p.m. on June 29th, 2006.
