City And Tribal Museums Collaborate On A Multi Tribal Exhibition of
Contemporary Artwork
Albuquerque, NM (January 9, 2007) Artwork by a cadre of prominent
Native American artists will be shown simultaneously at the
Albuquerque Museum and the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center from January
28 to April 15. This collaboration marks an important step in
enhancing citywide arts institution-to-institution relationships in
Albuquerque.
This invitational exhibition titled, "Unlimited Boundaries:
Dichotomy of Place in Contemporary Native American Art,†features
work by 11 nationally and internationally known artists from the
United States and Canada. Eight of these artists are from New Mexico.
Douglas Fairfield, Albuquerque Museum’s curator of art, selected
artists in part for their cutting-edge artistic concepts and how their
work corresponds to the thesis of the exhibition.
"Unlimited Boundaries†provokes consideration of how these
individuals view themselves as artists and as Native Americans in the
21st Century.
Artists whose works appear in the exhibition include: Norman Akers,
Osage, Steven Deo, Creek/Euchee, Bob Haozous, Chiricahua Apache,
Gregory Lomayesva, Hopi, Nora Naranjo-Morse, Santa Clara Pueblo,

Whitehorse, Dine.
The grand opening, receptions and entertainment for the exhibitions
are free for both museums and will be held at each respective museum
on January 28. Several experts in Native American contemporary arts
and art history will hold a panel discussion at the Albuquerque Museum
on that day at 1 p.m. The featured panelists include: Cynthia L.
Chavez, Ph.D., Museum Director for the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center,
Douglas Fairfield, Ph.D., Curator of Art at the Albuquerque Museum and
Dr. Nancy Marie Mithlo, Smith College.

occur at both venues throughout the exhibition’s run. Lectures by
some of the exhibition’s artists will take place. Nora Naranjo-Morse
will give a talk at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center on March 4. In
addition, an exhibition catalog will be available for purchase at both
