FESTIVAL OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES

CALL FOR ENTRIES ANNOUNCEMENT
Deadline for submissions: December 31, 2005
CRITERIA:
To all persons and organizations that produce, promote
and distribute indigenous film and video.
ELIGIBLE WORKS:
We are seeking works in film and video in any genre
and on any topic related to the economic, cultural,
organizational, social, political, and creative
aspects of indigenous communities. Productions that
directly promote political parties or governmental
institutions will not be considered.
LANGUAGE:
We prefer that any works in languages other than
Spanish be submitted with a Spanish language
transcript. While we encourage the submission of works
in other languages, particularly in indigenous
languages, budgetary limitations require that
filmmakers whose works are selected be responsible for
Spanish subtitling or dubbing. Please contact us with
specific questions or concerns.
LIMITATION ON PRODUCTION DATES:
Works submitted to the festival must have been
produced no earlier than January 1, 2003, and must not
have been featured in the Seventh International
Festival, celebrated in Chile in 2004.
AWARDS:
A designated jury will determine which works are
chosen to receive awards. The decision of the jurors
will be final. Prizes will consist of works of
indigenous art, and plaques and certificates of
recognition. No cash prizes will be awarded.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTED WORKS AND AWARDS:
Films and videos will be selected for screening and
prizes will be awarded based on the extent to which
they:
¦ Promote respect for and the dignity of
indigenous peoples
¦ Promote gender equality and the rights of
indigenous women
¦ Contribute to the strengthening of indigenous
identity and culture
¦ Give prominence to cultural expressions that
are threatened with disappearance and/or assimilation
¦ Contribute to organizing processes in
indigenous communities
¦ Reflect the rights of indigenous peoples,
their freedom and their self-determination
¦ Express the notion of development from an
indigenous perspective
¦ Promote intercultural dialogue
¦ Stand out for their creative use of aesthetic
and narrative techniques
